1. The short version
We run one advertising tracker on this site: the Meta pixel, which tells Meta (Facebook and Instagram) that a browser has visited, so that our ads reach the right people and we can see whether they work. It sets its own cookies, and you can switch it off from the footer of any page. We run no other analytics and no session recording. The age gate sets one cookie of its own. If you fill in the contact form we receive what you typed. That is all.
This notice explains it properly. It covers tuskave.com, published by Hogshead Single Barrels LLC.
2. What we collect
When you confirm your age
The age gate asks for your date of birth. It is used once, in your browser,
to work out whether you are 21 or over. It is never sent to
us and never stored. All that is kept is a single cookie named
tuskave_age, holding the value "1" for 30 days,
so you are not asked again on every page.
That cookie is strictly necessary for a legal age restriction. The advertising cookies described below are not necessary, and Texas law treats targeted advertising as something you may opt out of rather than something you must opt into, which is why you are reading a notice here rather than clicking a consent banner. Section 5 explains how to opt out. To remove the age cookie, clear cookies for this site in your browser.
The Meta advertising pixel
This site runs the Meta pixel on every page, including the age gate. When you visit, it tells Meta that a browser has arrived, which page it is on and when, along with your IP address, your browser and device type, and a random identifier it stores in your browser. If you send us an enquiry, it also tells Meta that an enquiry was submitted, and if you open the cask dossier it tells Meta that too. It never sends Meta your name, your email address, your message, or your date of birth.
Meta uses this to build the audiences we advertise to: people who have visited this site, and people who resemble them. That is targeted advertising, sometimes called retargeting. What Meta does with the data afterwards is governed by Meta's own privacy policy.
It stores two cookies on this site: _fbp, a random identifier
for your browser, kept for 90 days; and _fbc, set only if you
arrive from one of our ads, recording which ad brought you, also kept for
90 days. Neither holds your name or your email address.
It does not load for everyone. It is skipped entirely, and sets no cookie at all, if you have used the opt-out in our footer, if your browser sends Global Privacy Control, or if you are outside the United States. Our advertising runs in Texas only. For everyone else it loads before the age gate is answered, because our advertising has to be measured from the moment someone arrives.
When you contact us
The contact form collects your name, email address, the type of enquiry and your message. We use them to answer you and to keep a record of the conversation. If you ask about a cask, we keep enough of that exchange to handle the allocation properly.
We do not sell your details for money, and we do not add you to a marketing list because you asked us a question. The Meta pixel does tell Meta that an enquiry was submitted from your browser, but not who you are or what you wrote. We may disclose information where the law requires it, or to establish or defend a legal claim.
When you use the bottle customizer
The image you upload to preview a label is read and drawn entirely inside your own browser. It is never transmitted to us or to anyone else, and it disappears when you close the page. If you later send us artwork by email to have it produced, that email is handled like any other enquiry.
Automatically, by our host
Like any website, ours records ordinary server request logs — IP address, time, page requested, browser type — which our host keeps for security and reliability.
3. Why we are allowed to
Where the UK or EU GDPR applies to you: we rely on our legitimate interests in running a secure website and replying to people who contact us; on legal obligation for the age restriction; and on your consent where you have given it, which you can withdraw at any time.
Advertising cookies are different: in the UK and EU they require your consent before they are set. This site does not ask for that consent, so it does not set them there. The Meta pixel is not loaded for visitors outside the United States, and no advertising cookie is stored on their browsers.
4. How long we keep it
- The age cookie: 30 days, in your browser only.
- Contact enquiries: as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any relationship that follows, then deleted.
- Advertising cookies: 90 days in your browser, unless you clear them sooner or use the opt-out, which removes them straight away.
- What Meta keeps, and for how long, is governed by Meta's own retention policy rather than ours.
- Server logs: the short retention period our host applies.
5. Your rights
Wherever you are, you can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. If you are in the UK or EU you also have the right to object, to restrict processing, to data portability, and to complain to your data protection authority.
If you are a resident of Texas, California, or another US state with a privacy statute, you may have rights to access, correct, delete and obtain a copy of your personal data, and to opt out of targeted advertising and of the sale of your data.
We do process and share personal data for targeted advertising, through the Meta pixel described in section 2. We do not sell personal data for money. Texas law defines a "sale" broadly enough that sharing data with Meta for advertising may count as one, and where it does, the same opt-out applies.
How to opt out of targeted advertising. Any one of these works:
- Use the opt-out in the footer of any page, labelled "Do not share my data for advertising". One press. The pixel then does not load on that browser, and the advertising cookies already in it are cleared.
- Turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser or an extension. We honour it: when it is on, the pixel does not load.
- Email us at info@tuskave.com and ask to opt out. We will confirm, and we will not use your enquiry for advertising. We cannot switch off a tracker on your device from here, though, so please also use the footer control on any browser you want covered.
- Change Meta's own settings, which control how Meta uses what it already holds about you.
We will not charge you or treat you differently for opting out.
To exercise anything above, email info@tuskave.com. We will not charge you or treat you differently for asking, and we will respond within the time the applicable law allows. We may need to confirm your identity first.
If we refuse a request, we will tell you why, and you may appeal by replying to our decision. We will respond to an appeal within the time the applicable law allows, and if we still refuse we will tell you how to complain to your state's attorney general.
6. Children
This site is not directed at anyone under 21 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a minor has sent us information, tell us and we will delete it.
7. International transfers
We operate from Mexico and the United States and our service providers are largely US-based, so your information may be processed in the United States. Where we transfer personal data out of the UK or EU we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the Standard Contractual Clauses. The Meta pixel sends data to Meta Platforms, Inc. in the United States.
